The Arab Institute in Paris by Jean Nouvel puts into practice the idea of an intelligent facade. The mechanized glazing system is composed of a series of geometric apertures that adjust to environmental changes by controlling the sunlight entering the building.
The Institut du Monde Arabe was established in Paris in 1980 to foster cooperation and the exchange of information between France and the Arab world. Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the center emphasizes science and technology as a medium to develop cooperation.
The geometric motif of the glass facade is made up of a motorized brise-soleil system, composed of 240 apertures which shade the interior of the building from sunlight.
