The Institut du Monde Arabe was established in Paris in 1980 to foster cooperation and the exchange of information between France and the Arab world. Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the center emphasizes science and technology as a medium to develop cooperation.
The geometric motif of the glass facade is made up of a motorized brise-soleil system, composed of 240 apertures which shade the interior of the building from sunlight.
