About this place:
The Reichstag building in Berlin was built in 1894 to house the German Parliament. It was damaged in a fire in 1933 and later reconstructed by British architect Norman Foster.
The Reichstag dome sits atop the building and was designed by Foster to symbolize Germany's reunification. The glass dome represents transparency in government; the debating chamber of the German Parliament can be seen below the dome. A winding ramp ascends to the top of the dome where a 360 degree view of the city can be seen.
The iconic dome has become a landmark for the city. The decision to rebuild the original Reichstag building while incorporating a new futuristic dome illustrates the idea of reunification.
