    Having grown up in LA, I used to go to the Apple Pan all the time. I'll never forget the experience. You walk inside to a U-shaped counter, wrapped around an exposed kitchen. And there you wait, staking out a spot to sit, as you watch in eager anticipation as others devour delicious burgers. And then somehow, miraculously, a place opens up. It's your turn. You order the hickoryburger, and snack on crispy steak fries in the interim. Then comes that burger, followed by a perfect slice of banana cream pie. Unforgettable--and simply amazing.
