Rafael Núñez Contreras is a shepherd from Aranzazu, a mostly abandoned town in Zacatecas, México. I have him described as a "roadside attraction" because that's how we met.
Aranzazu is in Zacatecas State in México. It is a mostly abandoned town between Concepción del Oro and Mazapil. The area has many old silver mines and Mazapíl is the nearest town to the Peñasquito gold mine. The town has a beautiful parish church. The road that goes through Aranzazu is used infrequently and is rough; it is narrow, constructed of large rocks set in dirt and winds over a mountain pass. It is absolutely beautiful as are the towns of Mazapíl and Concepción (Concha) del Oro. Great place to see for those who like to really get off the beaten path.
