Worlds largest natural travertine bridge. 183 feet tall, 150 feet wide, 400 feet long.
Just off the beaten path northwest of Payson Arizona sits an amazing geological sight! Tonto Natural Bridge is the worlds largest natural travertine bridge, standing 183 feet fall, 150 feet wide, and 400 feet long underneath.
An easy (paved) road leads you down to the ranger station (a beautiful old resort currently undergoing renovations) where you can pay a small 3$-10$ fee to enter the park. Several short and easy trails lead out from the parking lot for views of the bridge, or hiking down into the canyon to go under it. A short and easy 1-2 mile hike leads you down to a small creek which you follow until you reach the bridge (if you can pull yourself away from the 40 foot tall DELICIOUS blackberry bush under a waterfall along the way).
Finally reach the bridge and refresh yourself in a cool shower from a small spring waterfall that sprinkles down rain from the very top while taking in the vast scale of this amazing landmark.
