Place to see: Royal Tombs, Hu?, Vietnam

Tomb of Khai Dinh

Tomb of Khai Dinh

The tomb of Khai Dinh near Hue was built between 1920 and 1931. It is a concrete goliath built into a hillside and is one of my favorite tombs of the Nguyen Dynasty.

About this place:

There are several impressive Royal Tombs around Hue from the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945). You can rent a motorbike in Hue to venture the 2-16km to see them as they are spread around the banks of the Perfume River. Don't worry if you get a flat tire, as repair shops are plentiful and it will only set you back about 25 cents - we got two over the course of the afternoon! You can also get there by tour boat, but that would take a lot of the fun out of it.
