Staglieno opened its doors in January, the 1st of 1851 by desire of the richest families of Genova. These bourgeoises families were the ones who decided to order to importants artists of their times and to architects and scenographers too the building of a City of Deaths with spectacular graves ornamented with sculptures and bass-reliefs where the relationship with their beloved people will continue in a public ritual of pain, memory, publicity and glorification. Currently the cemetery is a mausoleum of itself after decades of decadence and oblivion the dust and the dirt have done a new face to the old sculptures.
