About this place:

If you love the great outdoors, Crissy Field is a playground for nature-lovers and adventurers. Just a short distance from the Golden Gate Bridge, it offers a terrific viewpoint for the great bridge, Alcatraz Island, Angel Island, and the rugged Marin Headlands. The site was once Presidio Cove, a marsh-fringed baylet where sailing ships anchored. In the early 1970s, the immediate shore was transferred from its former owner–the Army–to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. In 2001, a major restoration project was completed. Now, there’s no end to things you can do whether you prefer tame adventures like gazing at the spectacular views, walking, and people-watching, or more high stakes thrills like kayaking, windsurfing and kite boarding. Crissy Field is a welcoming recreation ground where you’ll feel yourself slipping into a relaxed zone. It’s the perfect place to begin exploring the gorgeous San Francisco Bay.
