The damn was completed in 1923 and serves the people of the San Francisco Bay Area, more than 150 miles away.
Located in Yosemite National Park, the contentious Hetch Hetchy Reservoir has delivered water to the San Francisco Bay Area for nearly a century. In the early 1900s, before the valley was filled with water, John Muir called this place, "a grand landscape garden, one of Nature's rarest and most precious mountain temples."
It's still scenic today, but what one can't help but wonder what beauty is buried beneath our drinking water.
