   Hercules and Cacus, Florence, Italy

   The statue of Hercules and Cacus is located at the entrance of the Old Palace, next to Michelangelo’s David commissioned by the republican counsel of Florence to celebrate their victory over the Medici.
   
   The Medici commissioned the statue of Hercules and Cacus in 1525 – 1534, to celebrate their victory over the republicans. When it was viewed publicly it was ridiculed.

   The clock and the tower of this 13th century palace are a reference point for many tourists who visit Florence.
   
   The palace was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio and built in the Quartieri Santa Croce, in Piazza della Signoria. Cosimo I de’ Medici resided there along with his family.

   Maltese boats berthed along side modern yachts at Vittoriosa marina on the small Mediterranean Island of Malta. The historical surroundings make a fascinating backdrop for yachts visiting the island.
