   The Basilica Cistern

   One of the largest of the cisterns under Istanbul. A giant cathedral like space full of columns it holds nearly 80,000 gallons of water.

   Battlefield of World War I where the British - ANZAC forces attmepted an amphibious assault on Turkey. The young Turkish colonel commanding the defenders later became the father of a new, secular and independent Turkey - Kemal Ataturk.

   the greek jews were almost entirely wiped out during the holocaust, so the objects, clothing, and photographs in this museum represent a culture that has been all but lost to world outside the museum walls. these sephardic jews have a culture very heavily influenced by the ottomans.
