   Who knew that the best Pho in Vietnam would come from our own meager culinary abilities...with a little help of course.

   Hoi An

   Hoi An is located in central Vietnam on the Thu Bon river and close to the famous beaches of Danang. It escaped most of the destruction of war and retains lots of historic charm.

   Rowing in Halong Bay

   Vietnam's Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage site characterized by beautiful islands. As I watched this determined old woman rowing across an open expanse of water as she has probably done many times, I was reminded of how rarely we travel long distances under our own power.

Weird Tours Odd or unusual journeys that reveal something different about a place.

While most tourists trudge to the usual museums, churches, and historic sites, other travelers seek out tours that are unusual or out-of-the-way. Obsessive collections of junk? Factory tours? Tours of underground tunnels? Abandoned ruins? Crime scenes? Weird tours provide a unique perspective on oddball places that don’t usually qualify as “tourist attractions.”

   Inside the Golden Gate Bridge: At the bottom of an access shaft, looking up into the darkness... This ladder goes all the way to the top. Fortunately, there's an elevator that makes the ascent safer, easier, and much, much faster.
